a baby what?

so, call me silly if you want but I've been whippin' up my own baby food.
Say what? Say what?
Yea, I said: I. Have. Been. Making. Baby. Food.

I recently purchased this little puppy: the baby bullet.... and though my husband's first thought:
"for real, can't we just buy baby food like all the normal people in the world do?"  No, we can't.
I am slowly convincing him of how exciting it will be to make baby food!
(*Disclaimer: I don't expect this papa to be aproned up boiling veggies ANY time soon)

First, I'd like to point out that when I had my first daughter, I didn't make baby food because I had never really heard of it. But boy, if I knew then what I knew now, I certainly would have.
(And yes, Rylee turned out perfect as can be eating baby food from Gerber)
That said, I ain't knockin' Gerber, they have some yummy little mixtures

But have you ever read the label? Those babies (aka baby foods) have a shelf life of 3 years!!
Eww, gag, sick.
Imagine feeding your little buttercup a 3 year old sweet potato. or worse, a 3 year old banana! Double gag.

So, I thought: "how super fun it would be to make some baby food!"

Here, our little cherub awaits for her food...watching me as I make it.

We're sticking with the "4 day rule" diet, if you will, (Introducing 1 food at a time for 4 days to assure no allergic reaction develops)....
So...we, I begin with Sweet Potato.....always a favorite of Rylee's. And we also make some Zucchini..

First I peeled the potato then I boil it as such...

Then I gently dice up that $1.20 sweet potato and toss it ever so carefully into my Baby Bullet...
put it to work, then....
it made 6 jars! (And 6 jars of Zucchini)! (that would have cost about $8 in Gerber baby food jars)
And the jars? The cute little jars? Could I resist?
Seriously, Rylee and I wanted to puree up everything in our kitchen after seeing this....
But we refrained and decided puree eggs would make us gag.
so instead of pureeing our chicken dinner, we decided to feed Reese her first. ever. baby food.
First, we let her look at it, smell it, and feel it.
She seemed interested.

Rylee feeding Reese her first bite...

mmmhmmm, my children love food.

Now, puree popcorn anyone?

  2. My mom made my food when I was a baby, but that was 26 years ago when it was what almost everyone did. If I have kids, I will likely do the same. :)

Thanks for your comment on our blog about the craft show! We're pretty excited. We've just been boosting our inventory and getting a lot of business cards going so we're ready. Otherwise, we're not entirely sure what to expect!! Check back for a post-craft show blog post next week. :)

  3. Okay so I don't have any kids yet...but I so wanna do this if and when I do have one! How cool! I'm going to have to show this to my bro & sis-in-law because I'm sure they'd love it (and they actually have a baby...haha).

    Much love,

  5. Your little girls are sooo cute!!! xoxo I made my own baby food when my boys were little. They didn't have the magic bullet for babies back then but I used a steamer. {Super easy} and you're right -- SO much cheaper!! :) Good job mama! :)
PS -- loved your post above too and was laughing at the 80's pony tail! lol xo, Reannah
